I'm a giver!! I generally always have been. I like to give my time, my love, and ... plenty of gifts. Usually they're just the 'little' things. A piece of someone's favorite chocolate. A copy of a book they like from a used book store. A coffee to brighten your smile. A card with a gentle message.
I have always wanted to know what happened to those days.
It used to be a regular thing. People were giving, loving, honorable and thankful. Today, it always seems to be .. about what we WANT. Not what we want to GIVE.
And perhaps that's just the age we live in. Where this little rant is coming from is ... I was watching the movie 'Babe' of all things and there's this scene where the little girl unwraps her present from her grandparents. A dollhouse. It's beautiful and was handmade by her grandfather. The little girl promptly starts to scream, "It's the WRONG ONE. I WANT THE HOUSE I SAW ON THE TELEVISION."
THEN I started to think about people who look disappointed with Christmas presents because it's not 'the version' we want and ... of course I think it's okay to a point. If it's something you specifically pointed out and showed, then sure disappointment is there ... but do people have to VOICE that opinion now? Why can't we just be grateful and say 'Thank you' instead of 'That's NOT what I wanted'.
As we go into the Christmas season, let's not think about what we WANT to find under our trees ... let's think about what we want to GIVE instead.
